Friends of the Kaw – Wild & Scenic Film Festival

Friends of the Kaw Announces NEW Dates for Wild & Scenic Film Festival for the 10 Year Anniversary!

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started by the watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), in 2003.  The film festival has evolved into the largest environmental film festival in the nation.  The annual event each January in Nevada City, CA kicks off the nationwide tour to over 140 cities. We think the films are just too good, and the messages too powerful to keep them to ourselves. Come watch and see for yourself!

This Festival benefits Friends of the Kaw! We are hosting the 10th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of the Kaw and the Kansas Riverkeeper Program.

Sowing Seeds – Restoration at Lawrence River Trail

Sowing Seeds –

Restoration at Lawrence River Trail

It’s finally time to spread seeds over the reclaimed areas of the Lawrence River Trail. Thanks to our volunteers, we’ve cleared the invasive species from over 4 acres of forest this fall! Now, we need to fill those spaces with the seeds of native grasses and wildflowers. With your help, we’ll disperse the seeds and rake them gently into the soil. They’ll rest all winter and sprout in the spring, helping to protect those areas from re-invasion. Please join us for this heart-warming work. It’s low tech and all ages are welcome! If you have a rake, bring it. We’ll bring the rest. Dress appropriately for working outside – close toed shoes are a must! Note: Given the season, please join our volunteer email list to stay up to date on the schedule for this event. If we have to cancel, we’ll email that group. We’ll also keep this page up to date. Thank you for joining us to protect and preserve the Kansas River! We hope to use this project as a demonstration of how we can use native plants to protect the water quality of the Kansas River, which is a source of drinking water for over 800,000 Kansans! Thank you to the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council for funding this project!

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES:

  • Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and concisely (both in writing and orally) with a variety of audiences
  • Personal characteristics associated with successful fundraising professionals, including a vigorous work ethic, sound judgment, impeccable integrity, demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, personal and professional stamina, and the temperament to work effectively and productively with colleagues, donors, and volunteers
  • Experience with and commitment to using computer-based donor/member management systems in support of fundraising efforts
  • Experience working with non-profit boards is a plus
  • Passion for the Kansas River a big plus!

The position is part time with potential growth to full time.  Some night and weekend work will be required, particularly during membership and fundraiser events, so schedule flexibility is required.  The candidate must have a personal computer, phone, and transportation available for business use, with the expectation of a negotiated stipend towards these costs. Salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

Interested individuals should submit a resume and cover letter to info@kansasriver.org. Please include “Development Director” in the subject line of your application package. All questions or inquiries should also be sent to info@kansasriver.org with a different subject line.

Review of applications will begin 31 October 2018, but will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Anticipated start date is negotiable, but the ideal candidate will be available to start working by January 2019.
