Wild & Scenic Film Festival

What is the Wild & Scenic Film Festival?

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started by the watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), in 2003.  Read more here:  https://www.wildandscenicfilmfestival.org/about/.  Over the past 14 years it has evolved into the largest environmental film festival in the nation.  The annual event each January in Nevada City, CA kicks off the nationwide tour to over 140 cities. We think the films are just too good, and the messages too powerful to keep them to ourselves. Come watch and see for yourself!

This Festival benefits Friends of the Kaw! We are hosting the 9th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of the Kaw and the Kansas Riverkeeper Program.

The festival is possible due to support from many national and local sponsors for this event.

This year’s festival includes:

  • Free tickets for students and science teachers courtesy of our Educational Sponsor, Westar Green Team (must RSVP!) Tickets limited, first come first serve as select locations. See below for details.
  • Lots of door prizes!
  • Opportunity to participate in a Members-Only Raffle for a  Kayak (value of $63 donated by Sunflower Outdoors & the Friends of the Kaw Board!)  If you aren’t a Friends of the Kaw member you can join for $15 and then buy as many $10 raffle tickets as you want. Drawing will be held at the finale of the Liberty Hall event – you DO NOT have to be present to win!  Buy your tickets at the events, online below, or at the Lawrence Earth Day Celebration, Topeka Zoo Earth Day event, or the night of the festival!

How do I purchase tickets to the Festival?

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $15 for Adults and $7 for students.  Purchase tickets in advance or the day of the show at each venue or online (links below for each location).

Thanks to the Westar Green Team science teachers and students can attend the event for free but you must RSVP in advance via email!  We have a limited supply of FREE tickets for students and teachers a the Lawrence event and the Manhattan event (you must RSVP!).
