Your Impact – Your gift of $1,000 symbolically “adopts” a one-mile stretch of the Kansas River forever. Your gift provides the resources needed to care, monitor, and protect your mile of the river. Becoming a River Protector means you encourage discovery through kayaking, fishing, and camping. Becoming a River Protector means you believe in solutions such as improving wildlife habitats, seeding deep-rooted native plants to mend riverbank stabilization, educating students about water quality, guarding plentiful drinking water, and rallying hundreds of volunteers to remove trash, tires, refrigerators, battery cases, etc. River stewards unite!

Your Mile – Mile 1 begins at Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, KS, and mile 173 ends in Junction City, KS. Adopt a mile near home. Adopt a mile where you camp/fish/kayak. Adopt a mile at your favorite boat ramp. The name of each River Protector is placed on our River Protector map and proudly displayed at events and on the website.

Your Gift and/or Pledge

• Donate $1,000 per-mile with a one-time payment or pledge over 2 years.
• Donate online kansasriver.org/donation, click “Endowment Fund Donation.”
• Mail check payable to “Friends of the Kaw,” memo line “River Protector.”
• Donate by gifting stock or through your IRA.
• Consider gifting a mile to your loved-one, family, or friend. Celebrate a birthday, Valentine’s Day, wedding/anniversary, Earth Day, graduation, or just because.

FOK’s Commitment to You – We take seriously your decision to become a River Protector. It is a special moment for you as the donor and for FOK as recipient of the resources entrusted to our care. River Protectors strengthen the Endowment. Your gift is co-mingled with existing assets and invested for future growth. Currently, the endowment stands at $640,000 and earnings are used to build its overall value. The endowment began in 2003, and our goal is $2 million. The sooner we get there, the sooner we secure the protection of the Kansas River forever.
